Mara Simba Lodge
It was quite pleasant to find ourselves at the reception area sipping welcome drinks after the 5 hour drive (2 of which on bumpy roads). After registration, we were shown to our room. Mara Simba Lodge will be our home for the next 3 nights!

Our room is on the upper floor of a 2 storey wooden house. It's spacious and clean with a queen bed and a single bed. Two chairs and a table are placed on the balcony facing the river and bushes. The bathroom has shower (with hot water), running tap water and flush toilet. I have to admit that the accommodation is much better than I expected. 😊

The only thing is that the WiFi doesn't work in the room. Mr. Husband asked me to call the reception, but the telephone was nowhere to be found. Haha! So we did the "manual" way - walked to the reception. The staff said another guest had the same complaint and they were looking into it. We felt sure this Internet issue wasn't going to be fixed any time soon though. Ha!
On the way to the reception
After voicing our concern, we went to the restaurant for lunch. Considering we're in the middle of nowhere, the food was okay. The buffet had soup, a few salad dishes, some hot items and desserts. Hot food included some Indian sauce and rice, eggs, meat and pasta station. The staff there was all very polite, if not overly polite and stiff. I would have thought that the wait staff in Africa would be more casual and lively...
There were two hours before our first game drive so we used Internet at the lounge by the river, which Mr. Husband was contented with the company of two lazy crocodiles.
One of the crocodiles apparently shared the same feelings as he came very close to our table while we were having dinner 😄

In an effort to save energy, the lodge turns off the generator from 16:00 to 18:00 and from midnight to 05:00. It's not a problem for us because we're out for game drive until early evening. At night, it's cool enough to sleep without the ceiling fan on (we're here in July which is their winter time).

Mara Simba Lodge is quite comfortable and its location is perfect for safari - just less than 5 minutes drive from the gate. See Masai Mara I for more details. 😉
